Past Iranian state-sponsored cyberattacks have shown the ability to target the financial sector with distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, website defacements, spear phishing, and insider activity. Additionally, Iranian state actors and regional proxies have targeted supply chain providers, some critical to the security and resilience of the financial system, including Energy, Telecommunications, Information Technology, and Water.

ABA staff are involved in daily calls organized by the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council (FSSCC) and Federal Banking Information Infrastructure Committee (FBIIC) to discuss the situation in the Middle East and the impact to the financial services sector and other critical infrastructure sectors.
